The market, according to a publication in our local newspaper (the "Thüringer Allgemeine"), was found 160 years ago. I can not check, I will believe it gladly. Some dealers sell in their fifth and sixth generation. The rules of conduct laid down in the old regime from 1886.
On the Erfurt weekly market on Cathedral Square every Saturday come up to 12,000 customers.
At the "Cheese Man" there is official "Erfurt Altstadt cheese" available. It is a round soft cheeses, spicy with red culture medium. Cream stage. 150 g. Price = 3 EUR. Although, unfortunately, is not produced in the region, but tastes very good. And if you maybe already on the way to a picnic on the Petersberg, it's worth taking the cheese.
Those who has appetite for meats, I recommended Eichsfelder sausages "Stracke" and "Feldgieker". Be sold to two (or even three?) stands. A vending van comes from Gernrode and one from Leinefelde.
Also recommended for picnic's is a cup beef salad from the butcher Hering in Kerspleben.
