Buy your train reservation at a railway station. These are usually available at stations in all countries where a particular train runs through. In many countries, especially in central and eastern Europe you can also buy reservations for trains in other countries. In some countries (for instance in the Netherlands or Spain) you have to pay a service fee at the ticket counter.
The Bernina Express is a panoramic train running along one of Switzerland's most beautiful railway lines: the Bernina Railway from St Moritz to Tirano. On gradients of up to 70 per mill, the trains start in St Moritz climb the Bernina Pass at more than 2200 metres above sea level, before descending into the beautiful Valposchiavo before reaching their terminus Tirano, just across the border in Italy.
Bernina Express trains consist of air-conditioned panoramic cars with large windows, allowing for best views of the stunning scenery. 2nd and 1st class seats are available and a minibar services sells drinks and snacks at your seat. There are three routes available. Trains from St Moritz to Tirano cover the whole Bernina Railway in 2h30. Trains starting in Chur and Davos also run over the beautiful Albula Railway before reaching the Bernina line in Pontresina and continuing to Tirano. These trains combine the best parts of both the Albula and Bernina line in about 4 hours.
For travelling in the panoramic cars a seat reservation is compulsory. It is 14 CHF in summer season (May - October) and 10 CHF in winter. Bernina Express trains are pulled by railcars. You can travel in these railcars without the extra reservation.
