The Salt mine in Bad Dürrnberg, a small village in the Austrian Alps, is an attraction pole of tourism. Each year thousands of people want to see this fascinating underground world. When you're travelling in Austria, just seize the opportunity and visit this famous landmark. Approach: Train from Salzburg to Hallein: in fact there's a S-Bahn connection which takes you to Hallein in 30 minutes intervals. Furthermore, there are also express trains, but there you have to be careful because some don't stop at Hallein. The right direction is Bischofshofen/Klagenfurt/Graz. At the train station of Hallein there's also a bus stop where the line 41 is bound for Bad Dürrnberg and the Salt Mines. I'm sure the bus driver gladly tells you where to step out ;) Additional information: Bad Dürrnberg is also a fantastic hiking area. From Here, you can climb the Hoher Göll which peaks at 2500 metres but this is a quite long walk. There's also a summer toboggan from the Zinkenkogel, the longest summer toboggan in Austria.
