GermanyViewpoint over the Elbe and the harbor
Aussichtspunkt über die Elbe und den Hafen
For a very beautiful view over the Elbe and Hamburg's harbour is worth the "rise" to a kind of observation deck above the train/subway-station "Landungsbrücken". Leave the station at the West exit and do not just use the stairs down. Go right site to the top and you will reach the viewpoint close to the youth hostel. Especially beautiful it is the evening when the sun goes down. Those who want to make it the typical "hamburgian way" can buy before downstairs at the harbour some herring rolls and a bottle of Astra beer. Then buy and enjoy this perfect view. :)
Hamburg City Park
Hamburg Stadtpark
Hamburg is considered the greenest city in Europe! While this entitlement could be discussed it's a matter of fact that Hamburg has some really nice green places to offer - one of them is the City Park (called "Stadtpark" in German) in the North of the Alster lake. If you're exhausted after a long day or you don't feel like sightseeing all the time - go there! You will relax for sure! In summer many people are gathering there for BBQ, football, jogging, guitar singing, enjoying time outside in the nature. At the pond in the middle of the parc you can even lend small boats and get along the canals of Hamburg! Check under "sightseeing" here on Raildude for other activities and for more info! Easiest way to get to the parc is to take the subway, yellow line U3 until Borgweg (Stadtpark), when you leave the station turn left and go up the street for about 50m and then just follow the trees :)
Tower-Bar in the Hotel Hafen Hamburg
Tower-Bar im Hotel Hafen Hamburg
From the Tower Bar in the Hotel Hafen Hamburg you have a spectacular view from a height of 62 meters. Especially beautiful at night in the dark. I was invited there once. Nice! Opening times: daily from 18:00 to 02:00h
Planten un Blomen
Planet un Blomen is a huge, super beautiful park in the middle of the city of Hamburg (Germany). Easy to get there, for example from Dammtor railway station. Entrance is free.
Cemetery Ohlsdorf
Friedhof Ohlsdorf
The Ohlsdorf cemetery is the largest park cemetery in the world. It is Hamburg's most extensive park and worth a visit due to its historical grave paintings, 800 sculptures and the impressive garden architecture as a work of art. Opening times: summer 08:00 - 21:00 h winter 08:00 - 18:00 h
Altonaer Balkon
This viewpoint is excellent to watch ships. There are other places, but this one we liked most. You can also get specific information on ship arrivals, so that you know, when it is interesting to be here.
