Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg

The largest model railway in the world. You can spent in here hours watching Scandinavia, Germany, Switzerland and the US in miniature. Even if you are not interesting in model railway, it is definitely worth and a highlight. Entrance fee for students is EUR 9, adults EUR 12. Better to go there not on weekends, as it is very full and annoying.

Boat rental

Sightseeing the other way round! Enjoy Hamburg by boat on the small canals in the city surrounded by green trees and expensive buildings - at least this is the impression you will get when you rent a boat starting from the City Park because lots of wealthy people are living around that area along the Alster lake and its canals. The City Park is located in the North of the Alster lake and you can rent boats on the socalled "love island" (Liebesinsel) in the south of the big pond in the park. When you leave the pond, after the bridge follow the canal into the right direction - the left direction is not so exciting. If you have time you can go with the boat until the main Alster lake but you shouldn't move too far into the middle as the wind and streamings are quite unpredictable and there are also other bigger sailing boats out there. It's forbidden to drink alcohol while being on the boat so be aware of this or at least clever enough not to be seen by the water police who is patroling on the canals especially on busy days in the summer. There are lots of boat rentals in Hamburg with different range of prices and also different kind of boats (rowing boats, kanu, kajak, paddleboat, etc.) - the rental service at the city park is just one of them! For more information use the German word for boat rental in google: "Bootsverleih" ! There are lots of discounts (for students) and special offers, just ask!

St. Miachelis Church

St. Miachelis Kirche

St. Michaelis Church is the most famous church in Hamburg and one of the popular tourist spots in the city. You can go to a viewing platform of the tower on 106m by elevator or by stairs. From above you'll have a stunning view over the whole city - for example over the harbour. A look inside the church itself is also worth trying! Price is 4€, discount 3,5€. Group discount is also available. Easily to reach when you walk a few minutes by feet from the stations Stadthausbrücke, Rödingsmarkt or Baumwall. Tip: If you think the queue before the elevator is too long, take the stairs or try the view from the top of the old church St. Nikolai nearby (Willy-Brandt-Straße 60, 20457 Hamburg).

St. Nikolai Memorial

Mahnmal St. Nikolai

St. Nikolai Memorial is what's left of the St. Nikolai Church. It has been bombed during WW 2 and is nowadays a memorial for the fallen ones. The tower is still standing and has been made into an elevator- the view over Hamburg is stunning! There is also a museum and the price for the elevator and the museum is 5 EUR for adults, 4 EUR for students and 3 EUR for kids. I can definitely recommend everyone to go there.
