Good to know:

Great Britain is a great country for Interrail. Almost all trains can be used without a reservation, just hop on and go. In Great Britain there isn't a single State Railways, but many different private operators, all of which accept Interrail (except Heathrow Express). As home country of railway, there are plenty of beautiful and scenic lines, for example the line to Penzance in Cornwall, including the branch lines, the line from Settle to Carlisle or the railways in the Scottish highlands. Also, lots of interesting cities want to be discovered, not only London but also York, Liverpool, Glasgow, Chester,...

Timetables are available in our schedule planner or the Interrail app which include all trains and timings. You can also check on the national schedule planner and the sites of the different railway companies.

Many stations in Great Britain have barriers at the platforms which can only be opened with British tickets. When travelling with Interrail you have to ask a member of staff who will then open the gate for you.

The fastest connection to the continent is the Eurostar through the Channel Tunnel. Interrail is valid on Eurostar, however the seat reservation is very expensive so that often you will find cheaper advance fare tickets.

There are many ferries connecting Great Britain with Ireland, France, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. The main routes are from Holyhead to Dublin, from Dover to Calais and from Harwich to Hoek van Holland.
