Good to know:

Interrail is rather simple in Hungary. If you are using international trains only you don't have to worry about reservations, except for night trains. Only if you want to travel within Hungary you are going to need reservations for travel on Intercity services. These are easy to get though at train stations, even at short notice. All main lines are starting in Budapest and connect the capital with all other larger cities. Other worthwhile destinations besides Budapest are Visegrad and Esztergom at the Danube Bend, Debrecen, Pecs, the vineyards of Eger and of course Lake Balaton.

Timetables for the mainline network operated by MAV START and GySEV are available in our schedule planner or the Interrail app which include all trains and timings. However we recommend to use the schedule planner of MAV START to get accurate info about reservations.
