Through an approximately four-kilometer long greenbelt, the Planty, the world-famous old town of Krakow is shielded from motorist traffic. The old town is as an unique architectural ensemble since 1978 on the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritages. In the 16th Century, the Gothic castle of Piast king Casimir the Great was built as the today Renaissance castle. The Wawel Castle with its royal chambers can also be visited inside. It is located south-west of the old town.
