Brief History

Rail transportation in the Philippines began in the late 19th century with the establishment of the Manila Railway Company, building a line from Manila to Dagupan. In 1964, Philippine National Railways (PNR) was established. In the following years, PNR faced challenges including damage from natural disasters and lack of government support. However, in the early 21st century, efforts were made to rehabilitate and develop railroad infrastructure, including line rehabilitation and the launch of new projects such as the North-South Commuter Railway. Currently, PNR is working to expand its network and restore freight and passenger transportation.
