Find nice places in Sesimbra (Portugal), to stay and relax. Often located beside the beaten main tourist tracks.
PortugalCabo Espichel
One of our excursions took us from Sesimbra to the Cape Espichel. It is a 150 m high cliff. At Cabo Espichel is a lighthouse (built in 1790) and a pilgrimage church (built in 1701). From Sesimbra take the bus to Azoia. Then walk the last 2 to 2.5 km to the Cape. In the early afternoon there is also a direct bus to the Cape Espichel). There is only one connection to / from Cabo Espichel, so the bus directly to or from Cabo isn't woth as you won't have time there. We used in both cases the bus stop Azoia. The way is very easy to walk, also for completely inexperienced hikers. The bus company is TST (Transportes Sul do Tejo). Bus number 201. Journey time: 30 minutes. The morning departures from Sesimbra, schedule 2012/2013: 07.35 h (Sat and Sun already at 7.30 h) 09.00 h (Sat and Sun already at 8:55 h) 11.00 h (Sat and Sun only at 11.20 h) 12.20 h (only Sat, not Sun) The return trips in the afternoon from Azoia timetable 2012/2013: 17.00 h (not on Sat and Sun) 18.25 h (even on Sat and Sun) 19.05 h (not on Sat and Sun) 20.05 h (even on Sat and Sun) Besides, lighthouse and chapel you should not expect too much. There is no food, no toilets, no postcards for sale ... On both sides of the church (which is in good condition) are long buildings. In the past this was very simple pilgrim hostels. Unfortunately, all walled up and left to decay.
Castelo de Sesimbra
One of our trips took us to Sesimbra Castelo, the castle, situated 240 meters above the city. From there you have a good view. On the grounds of the castle is a small chapel and a cofee bar (only open during the warmer months). Best from Sesimbra take the bus toward Santana. From the bus stop at the intersection of the road to the castle it is still about 1.5 km foot walk. To find the right way from the city to the castle isn't as easy. I might easily happen that you end the the busy main road.
Walk on the Beach of Sesimbra
Caminhe ao longo do Praia de Sesimbra
A walk on the beach of Sesimbra at sunset (or as well at sunrise) ...
Walk along the Harbor of Sesimbra
Caminhe ao longo do Porto de Sesimbra
Going in the morning sun to the pier, the fish halls are buzzing with activity and you can watch the fishermen at the port mending the nets.
