The Glacier Express is a panoramic train running from St. Moritz to Zermatt along some of Switzerland's most beautiful railway lines. It is considered to be "the slowest express train in the world" which leaves you with enough time to marvel at the beautiful Swiss mountains. Glacier Express trains are jointly operated by two railway companies: RhB (Rhätische Bahn) from St Moritz via Chur to Disentis/Mustér and MGB (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn) for the remainder of the journey via Andermatt and Brig to Zermatt.
Glacier Express trains consist of air-conditioned panoramic cars with large windows, allowing for best views of the stunning scenery and a restaurant car which freshly prepares delicious meals. 2nd and 1st class seats are available. The trains take about eight hours for the trip from St Moritz to Zermatt.
For travelling in the panoramic cars a seat reservation is compulsory. It is 33 CHF in summer season (May - October) and 13 CHF in winter. The three-course meal served at your seat is 43 CHF. You can also order the main course only for 30 CHF as well as a la carte.
It is also possible to travel along the route of Glacier Express in ordinary regional trains. These do not convey panoramic cars, but the windows can be opened. No reservation is necessary. From St Moritz to Zermatt you have to change in Reichenau-Tamins, Disentis/Mustér, Andermatt and Brig.
