InterCity trains are the backbone of long-distance travel in Finland. They operate on the main lines, connecting the capital Helsinki with all parts of the country.
Most IC trains consist of modern double-deck coaches with comfortable seats and lots of space and different facilites. On some routes you will also find older, but refurbished single-deck coaches, running together with the double-deck carriages.
- 2nd class ("Ec🧐 and 1st class ("Extra") seats on all trains
- in Eco class, seats are usually arranged in rows of four (2+2 seats) in open-plan arrangement with most seats in rows and only some seats facing each other
- in Extra class, seats are arranged in rows of four as well (2+2 seats) however with a larger seating pitch. Newspapers and coffee, tea and water are available free of charge

- compartments for the disabled, families and children as well as for passengers with pets
- bicycle transport
-- trains on longer routes (about three hours and more) also convey a restaurant car where you can get snacks, drinks and hot dishes. Trains on shorter routes often only have a minibar service.
