ItalyCampo San Barnaba
Campo San Barnaba is a small square in Venice's so-called "in" and student district. It´s pretty easy to find if you go to the Vaporetti station Ca'Rezzonico, which is right at the Canal Grande then you just have to go down Calle del Traghetto and you're there. There is the San Barnaba Church right there (which sometimes hosts inexpensive but nice exhibitions). Here you can find two snack bars, which come in handy, because they don't look at you like you're a mad person when you're only ordering one course (and not 3 or 4 how it's common in Italy) especially the waitresses at the Ai Artisti are super friendly and the food compared to snack bars in the district San Marco are rather inexpensive. It´s great to hang out here because it's not too crowded but also not too empty. Sometimes there are street artists, some are good (like the circus clown, who made amazing feats some are rather terrible musicians, but it´s up to the people in the snack bars if they want to give them money for their performance. You can as well find a fruit merchant/green grocer just around the corner at the Fondamenta Gheradini, if you only want a small fast healthy snack. ( a part of the fruits are sold on a boat, which seemed pretty cool to me) There´s a cool mask shop called Ca'Macana on the corner if you cross the ponte barnaba (the bridge right at the square), where you are allowed to try on those fantastic masks on and make pictures. If you wanna go somewhere more fancy to eat than the snack bars the big square (that's (on the map) slightly left above it) is called Campo St. Maguerita and has some restaurants and is a great place to hang out at as well. I hope this helps :) - Rina
