Direct day and night trains connect Serbia and Montenegro via one of the most scenic rail routes of Europe.
This rail route leads from Belgrade (Serbia) via the mountains of Montenegro to Podgorica and Bar.
The journey time from Belgrade to Bar is about 11 hours. The ticket price is 21 EUR in 2nd class and 32 EUR in 1st class. A seat reservation is 3 EUR. In the night train the standard berth prices is 6 EUR. In a sleeper cabin the prices depends on its capacity (reservation fare per person): 3 persons 15 EUR, 2 persons 20 EUR, 1 person 45 EUR.

2b Travelling from Ancona (Italy) to Patras (Greece)
Travel from Ancona to Patras by ferry. The journey time is 23 hours. The ticket price starts at 70 EUR. The ferry companies Superfast Ferries, ANEK Lines and Grimaldi Lines serve this route.
You will find these service categories on board of the ferry:
- seats: standard inclinable seats which are the cheapest travel option
- shared cabins with beds: you share the cabin and the shower and toilet with other travellers.
- private cabins: from standard to luxury cabins with private bed, shower and toilet. This is the best option if you want privacy, travel with your family or friends.
The check-in time is two hours prior to departure.
How you get in Ancona from the train station to the ferry port:
It is a distance of 2 kilometres from Ancona railway station to the port. You can either walk which will take about 30 minutes. Or you travel by bus line number 12 or 20. Frequent departures are available. The bus journey time is 10 minutes. You will arrive at the „Ancona Ferries Terminal“, the departure place of all ferry companies. The bus ticket price is 1.50 EUR. Show your boarding pass (if you have it already) and you may travel for free.
How you get in Patras from the ferry port to the train station:
You will arrive at the „New Port“ of Patras, which is 2 kilometres in the south of the railway station. Either walk within 30 minutes along the promenade or use the bus line number 18 to get to the railway station. It is a journey time of 10 minutes with hourly departures. The bus ticket price is 1,20 EUR. From Patras continue your journey by OSE train to Athens and other destinations in Greece.
In Patras you have a second port: the North Port which serves ferry routes to the Ionian Sea. Take bus line 18 or walk from the railway station within 10 minutes.

2d Travelling from Thessaloniki (Greece) to Skopje (Macedonia)
Travel from Greece to North Macedonia by train. The only available train connection is by the night train from Thessaloniki (Greece) to Skopje (North Macedonia) and on to Belgrade.
2021: This train runs only in the summer months. Between Thessaloniki and the Greek-Macedonian border the train is replaced by buses.
The journey time from Thessaloniki to Skopje is four hours. The departure time in Thessaloniki is 18:50. The arrival time in Skopje is 21:55. The train ticket fare is 13 EUR.
An alternative travel route is by train from Thessaloniki to Florina (Greece). There you cross the border by taxi to Bitola (North Macedonia), from where you continue by train to Skopje.
1) Thessaloniki to Florina: the journey time is 2:40 hours. One train connection daily with departure time in Thessaloniki at 13:20. And the arrival time in Florina is 16:00. The ticket fare is 10 EUR.
2) Florina to Bitola: by taxi. The journey time is one hour plus border control. The distance is 35 kilometres. The taxi fare is 28 EUR.
3) Bitola to Skopje: the journey time is 3:20 hours. Three daily train connections with departure times in Bitola at 03:15 / 12:50 / 18:30. And arrival times in Skopje at 06:40 / 16:15 / 21:50. The ticket fare is 6 EUR.

3b Travelling from Bari (Italy) to Durrës (Albania)
Travel from Bari to Durrës by ferry. The journey time is 9 hours. The ticket price starts at 40 EUR. The ferry companies Adria Ferries, GNV and Ventouris Ferries serve this route.
You will find these service categories on board of the ferry:

- shared cabins with beds: you share the cabin and the shower and toilet with other travellers.
- private cabins: from standard to luxury cabins with private bed, shower and toilet. This is the best option if you want privacy, travel with your family or friends.

How you get in Bari from the train station to the ferry port:
It is a distance of 2 kilometers from „Bari Centrale“ railway station to the ferry terminal. You can either walk which will take about 25 minutes. Or you travel by bus line number 50. It is a circle line from „Bari Centrale“ (departure directly in front of the train station) to „Stazione Marittima“. The bus runs every 20 minutes and the ticket price is 1 EUR (buy the ticket inside of the train station). The bus journey time is 15 minutes.
The ferry port of Bari has two terminals.
1. „Terminal Crociere“ is for ferry departures in direction of Greece.
2. „Terminal Porto di Bari“ is for ferry departures other than Greece, for example in direction of Croatia.
Between these two ferry terminals runs a free shuttle bus.
If you want to visit Bari old-town, use the lockers at the train station. These are better than the ones at the ferry terminal due to the opening times.
How you get in Durrës from the ferry port to the bus station:
The ferry terminal of Durrës is just opposite of the train station and the bus station. Leave the ferry terminal by the pedestrian bridge and you are at the train station and beside is as well the bus station.

3c Travelling from Durrës (Albania) to Tirana (Albania)
To travel in Albania by train, you have to buy your ticket locally at the train station. Tickets are not sold in advance, only for the next departure.
There is only one service class available.
Timetable amendments and train cancellations come into effect at short notice. Please always check locally at the station before travelling.
If no train connection is available, make use of one of the frequent bus connections.
