IT Italy - AL Albania

If you want to travel from Italy to Albania the direct way, you have to use a ferry. Ferry connections are available for example from Bari (Italy) to Durrës (Albania).

Direct "Railjet" trains run from Italy to Austria during the day. They are available on the route Venice via Villach with Vienna. "Eurocity" trains run on the route from Bologna, Verona to Innsbruck.

We also recommend you the "Nightjet" night train connections for your journey. They run from Rome, Milan and Venice to Salzburg and Vienna. The Nightjet trains are very comfortable and save your travel time while you sleep.

The Austrian railways ÖBB offers saver fares "Sparschiene" from 29 EUR for the Railjet and Eurocity trains. A ticket for the night train Nightjet starts from 29 EUR in the seat car and from 69 EUR in the sleeping car.

IT Italy - CH Switzerland

The train journey from Italy to Switzerland usually leads via Milan. You reach Milan easily from everywhere in Italy by several high-speed-train connections. From Milan you continue by Eurocity train to Switzerland.

IT Italy - GR Greece

Travel from Italy to Greece by train and ferry. The ferry routes are from Bari, Ancona, Trieste and Venice via Igoumenitsa to Patras. All ferry ports except Igoumenitsa are connected to the railway network.

You have to buy three tickets.

1. One train ticket from your departure railway station in Italy to the ports of Bari, Ancona, Trieste or Venice. All cities are well connected to the Italy railway network.

2. One ferry ticket from Bari, Ancona, Trieste or Venice to Igoumenitsa or Patras. These routes are served by the ferry companies Minoan Lines and Superfast Ferries. The fastest route is from Bari to Patras with a journey time of 16 hours and ticket fares from 40 EUR. The other routes take up to 24 hours with ticket fares from 45 EUR.

3. One train or bus ticket from Igoumenitsa or Patras to your travel destination in Greece. To travel to Thessaloniki, the best option is by bus from Igoumenitsa. To travel to Athens, take the train from Patras.

Travel from Italy to Croatia by train and ferry. There are ferry connections from Ancona to Split and from Bari to Dubrovnik.

You have to buy three tickets.
1. A train ticket from your departure station in Italy to Ancona or Bari.
2. The ferry ticket for the ferry route from Italy to Croatia: Ancona-Split or Bari-Dubrovnik. Ferry tickets are available from 16 EUR. The journey times is 11 hours.
3. A train or bus ticket from Split or Dubrovnik to your travel destination.

If you want to travel the whole route by train, travel via Ljubljana (Slovenia) to Zagreb (Croatia). From there continue to your travel destination.

IT Italy - SI Slovenia

Travel from Italy to Slovenia on the train route from Trieste (Italy) to Ljubljana (Slovenia).

From Trieste (Italy) you have at least two trains per day in direction of Ljubljana (Slovenia). The journey time on the railway line Trieste to Ljubljana is 2:50 hours. The train ticket fare is 8 EUR. Buy the ticket at a train station.

It is also possible to cross the border at Gorizia. But you have to include a bus to get from the Italian to the Slovenian train station within the town.
